Facts and figures
Quantity improves quality
Practice makes perfect. That is an old saying and in the medical field a corresponding finding is not new, either, namely that performing a great number of surgeries with a harmonious and synchronised team of physicians and nurses will lead to better therapy results. Several US studies1 revealed that a correlation between the frequency of surgeries performed in a hospital and the mortality rate of its patients is conceivable. The central conclusion of these studies on the correlation between the surgical quantity and the mortality rate is: The more surgeries are performed the less patients die.
Even if this correlation has been controversially discussed in professional circles to this day - who would voluntarily prefer a less experienced or junior surgeon to an experienced senior specialist, when your health is at stake?

Experience and specialisation
The medical specialists of the Schüchtermann-Klinik are masters of their craft. That this is a fact is not only shown by the evaluations of the external quality assurance but also by the total number of surgical interventions.
Cardiac catheterisations
since 1977: more than 100,000
Cardiac surgeries with the heart-lung machine
since 1993: 47,000
Balloon dilatations
since 1984: 18,300
Pacemaker and defibrillator implantations
since 1992: 5,800
High patient satisfaction
Excellent medical performance combined with genuine warmth creates satisfied patients. The extent to which we actually come up this concept is surveyed by the continuous questioning of our patients. It is pleasing that in all clinical divisions many patients participate in the survey (approx. 50% of the questionnaires being returned). The patients express their satisfaction by giving German school grades ranging from 1 (for excellent) to 6 (for fail). The results are pretty impressive.

The excellent results of the internal survey on patient satisfaction are confirmed by the findings in the rehabilitation division where the quality assurance is carried out externally by the statutory pension insurance. In the divisions cardiac surgery and cardiology the results of the external patient survey performed by the Techniker Krankenkasse (TK) are outstanding.
