History

On 1st October 2008 the Schüchtermann-Klinik looks back at its 35 years of existence. This occasion inspires us to remember the founder of our corporation - Councillor of Commerce Heinrich Schüchtermann.

Heinrich Schüchtermann and his wife Antoinette Schiller contributed a major part of their self-earned fortune into the family-based foundation designated as Schüchtermann-Schiller'sche Familienstiftung in Dortmund. This foundation also includes the Rothenfelder Gesellschaft, which today operates under the name of Schüchtermann-Schiller'sche Kliniken Bad Rothenfelde GmbH & Co. KG.

Heinrich Schüchtermann, 1830-1895

The Schüchtermann-Klinik commenced its operations in 1973 as a internal-sanatorium. As early as in 1975, when a follow-up curative treatment after acute heart attack and stroke was established, the hospital became a rehabilitation centre, which differed greatly from a sanatorium or a health and wellness clinic.

The department for cardiac catheter diagnostics was founded in 1977 and today disposes of five advanced catheter labs. The first catheter-based intervention for the treatment of angiostenosis (balloon dilatation = PTCA) was performed in April 1984. In 1981 the hospital was expanded by an intensive care and monitoring unit corresponding to the model of a coronary care unit as can be found, e.g., in the Mayo Clinic, Rochester. In 1990 the Schüchtermann-Klinik was extended by a medical wing, a callisthenics gym, a physiotherapy room, lecture rooms for the health training and rooms for the psychological department. By being integrated into the Niedersächsischer Krankenhausplan (hospital plan for Lower Saxony) on 01.07.1990 the collaboration of the divisions for rehabilitation and acute medicine was implemented.

And in 1993 the commissioning of the Cardiac Surgery with for the time beeing three operating theatres, intensive care unit, monitoring ward and the functional unit of Anaesthesiology completed the Schüchtermann-Klinik's extension to become a cardiac centre. Today the Cardiac Surgery disposes of five operation theatres.

Since the Herzzentrum Osnabrück-Bad Rothenfelde was founded in 2000 a comprehensive cardiological acute and emergency care for the population of the region City and administrative district of Osnabrück has become possible. The Herzzentrum (cardiac centre) works under the joint sponsorship of the Klinikum Osnabrück, the Marienhospital Osnabrück (since 2003) and the Schüchtermann-Schiller'sche Kliniken GmbH & Co.KG.

From 2008 to 2010 further renovation and new building took place in the Schüchtermann-Klinik. In 2009 the new cardiac surgery intensive care unit and monitoring ward as well as a comfort ward was opened. Since 2010 the Schüchtermann-Klinik is equipped with a new hybrid operation theatre and a chest-pain-unit.

Owing to its sophisticated medical equipment and its renowned medical performance the Schüchtermann-Klinik ranks among the most advanced cardiac centres of the Federal Republic of Germany. It lives up to the reputation of its founder Heinrich Schüchtermann who was both a forward-looking entrepreneur and a socially committed benefactor. Our supervisory board, management board, physicians and staff feel obliged to further develop the life's work of this man in his spirit with courage and energy by always being ready to help our diseased fellow men, who seek healing and recovery in the Schüchtermann-Klinik.
