A joint approach against healthcare-associated infections

Infections acquired in hospital, the so-called “nosocomial infections”, and the increasing antibiotic resistance when combating certain germs (e.g. MRSA), pose a great challenge for all healthcare entities worldwide.

Against this backdrop, the Hygiene Management of the Schüchtermann-Klinik intends to prevent any colonisation, infection or spreading of germs. The Hygiene Team of the Schüchtermann-Klinik consists of a hygiene specialist as well as of a physician and a nurse each being responsible for hygiene management within the scope of their respective functions; in coordination with the cross-divisional Hygiene Committee, the team collaborates with all relevant hospital divisions.

In addition to the elaboration and updating of binding hygiene standards based on the recommendations of the Robert Koch Institute, the hygiene experts manage training measures, hygiene inspections and consultations, evaluations of germ resistance patterns as well as the specification of the internal antibiotics regime. Key measures are introduced after consultation of a medical specialist for hygiene medicine at the Lower-Saxon Health Agency.

It is a matter of course to the Schüchtermann-Klinik that we participate in national hygiene campaigns and that we use specific hygiene data collection and assessment tools such as the HAND- or MRSA-KISS system.

The Schüchtermann-Klinik is a member of the regional MRSA network, which is actively involved in combating the resistant germ beyond the healthcare facilities.
