The Institut für Prävention und Sportmedizin at the Schüchtermann-Klinik is your qualified contact for cardiological, sports medicine and performance diagnostics issues. We offer tar-geted approaches for enterprises, individuals, athletes and patients, which allow the testing and optimisation of their cardiovascular system, vitality and physical capacity.

For cardiovascular patients we recommend a medical examination (e.g. ECG, lab test, echo-cardiography, exercise test, possibly ultrasound examination of the vascular system and, if re-quired, further diagnostic measures with all examination methods available in a major cardiac centre). Alternatively or supplementary, it is possible that the patient submits previous findings prepared by his/her attending cardiologist or internal specialist. By means of scientifically vali-dated and standards-compliant methods the individually adequate exercise intensity and dura-tion are determined and advice is given on the type of sport that is appropriate for the patient's respective situation. In this respect we refer to the recommendations given by the DGPR = Deutsche Gesellschaft für Prävention und Rehabilitation (German Association for Prevention and Rehabilitation). For individual or team athletes we recommend - unless this has recently been made already - a basic cardiological diagnostic in an extent depending on the person's age. Here, we follow the recommendations of the DGPR = Deutsche Gesellschaft für Prävention und Rehabilitation (German Association for Sports Medicine and Prevention). Being a DGSP-certified institute for lactate diagnostics, as a matter of course we provide a lactate kinetics analysis complete with a scientifically founded evaluation and threshold determination by means of the "winlaktat" evaluation software. Based on this we give exercise recommendations (and devise a training scheme, if required) which are founded on sports science data and focus on improving the car-diopulmonary endurance capacity and/or achieving a more economical training approach. Moreover it is possible to measure the athlete's peak oxygen uptake by ergospirometry, which is a conclusive parameter for the overall physical capacity. Please see our Scope of Services!

A health check is advisable for everybody - even without pre-existing conditions or exercise ambitions - and should be had in larger intervals. The extent will individually be determined in a personal consultation. All diagnostic means of a major cardiac centre can be used for your health check. A frequent combination is:
Taking of the medical history, resting ECG, echocardiography (ultrasound examination of the heart), ultrasound examination of the carotid arteries, laboratory diagnostics (including determi-nation of the cholesterol level and other cardiovascular risk factors), ergospirometry (perform-ance test complete with measurement of the respiratory gases and determination of the peak oxygen intake, stress ECG), body plethysmography (pulmonary function testing), final medical consultation and sports science advice.
