Quality at every level

Offering the highest quality is especially important in the medical field in particular. If you are one of the largest and most advanced cardiac centres in Germany, this requirement is mandatory. That is why quality management is an integral part of our organisation and is pursued with a high level of commitment.

The aim of our work is to provide excellent medical services with all of our heart. This is only possible with skilled employees, smooth processes, continuous improvements and external audits.

In order to satisfy these principles of our quality policy, we developed a classical quality management system in 1999 which was certified two years later for the first time in accordance with DIN ISO 9001:2000. The main aim of quality management has always been patient-oriented process optimisation. However, in order to structure all of the processes at the clinic in the patient’s interests, a dense network of medical and organisational control and improvement measures is required. Furthermore, countless legislative and other normative requirements have to be implemented.

Over the last few years the management system that once focused on quality has developed into an Integrated Management System (IMS). In order to be able to satisfy all quality and organisational requirements, the IMS combines not only the classical themes of quality management and quality assurance, but also the following aspects:

As a learning organisation that recognises errors in order to avoid them in the future, we are self-critical and subject ourselves to numerous external audits. The term ‘certification’ refers to a process with the help of which compliance with defined standards is verified. Certifications are always performed by impartial external entities as this ensures an independent and neutral approach.

During annual audits, external health experts of the German Technical Inspection Agency (TÜV) in the Rhineland check the procedures used at the Schüchtermann-Klinik, according to the international DIN EN ISO 9001 standard, among others. The Schüchtermann-Klinik has been certified in accordance with this standard since the year 2001. As one of the first cardiac centres in Germany, the Schüchtermann-Klinik has succeeded in obtaining the certification of all clinical and non-clinical areas.

We have also been awarded certificates in the following areas:

In the field of inpatient rehabilitation, the certificate according to the DEGEMED procedure, which expands the requirements of the ISO standard to include rehab-specific quality criteria, was successfully supplemented in 2012. Furthermore the rehabilitation department provides proof of its high quality standards within the framework of a certification process of the German Society for the Prevention and Rehabilitation of Cardiovascular Diseases (DGPR).

The quality of our meals is assessed as part of an external certification process by the Quality Association of Nutritional Competence.

In addition, the Schüchtermann-Klinik has passed the hygiene examination of the Veterinary Service for the City and District of
Osnabrück with distinction in accordance with the smiley system. To obtain a smiley from the official food monitoring body, 27 different criteria are examined, including the structural and hygienic condition of the premises, hygiene behaviour when handling food and
compliance with food law regulations. Every facility is extensively checked by the official food monitoring body without notice.

Pain Management

Under the motto “Determined to defy pain” the Schüchtermann-Klinik is one of the small group of German
hospitals that has been able to implement all the standards specified by the “Initiative Schmerzfreie Klinik” (“Painless Clinic Initiative”). The management of acute pain at the Schüchtermann-Klinik has been certified by the German Technical Inspection Agency (TÜV) since 2008. Further information on our pain management can be found HERE.

The CHEST PAIN UNIT, our admission ward for patients with unexplained symptoms in their chest, has had a “Chest Pain Unit – DGK-certified” award since 2011. This award is issued by the German Society of Cardiology – Cardiac and Circulation Research (DGK) and takes into account not only the room and equipment requirements, but also the therapeutic strategies in the CPU, as well as the level of training of the employees, among other things.

Central Sterilisation

CENTRAL STERILISATION at the Schüchtermann-Klinik was certified for the first time in 2014 by the German Technical Inspection Agency (TÜV) in the Rheinland in accordance with the global industry standard DIN EN ISO 13485. For us as the users of medical devices, safety is the number one quality characteristic. DIN EN ISO 13485 takes this specific feature into account. With the certification we provide proof that our central
sterilisation processes fulfil the high standards which the legislature imposes on us.
