Who we are – Supervisory Board
Since its establishment in 1973, the Schüchtermann-Klinik has developed from a spa clinic for internal medicine into a modern, integrated cardiac centre. This continuous growth has also occurred thanks to the entrepreneurial commitment of the Schüchtermann-Schiller Family Foundation in Dortmund. Heinrich Schüchtermann and his wife Antoinette Schiller donated a large share of their fortune to this foundation, which still includes the Schüchtermann-Klinik today.
The development of the clinic shows that the structure of a charitable family foundation is an ideal hospital operator which can successfully implement good ideas free from short-term economic or political decision-making constraints.
The Board of Trustees also includes both the highest ecclesiastical and political dignitaries in Dortmund. Today these are the Provost Andreas Coersmeier and Mayor Ullrich Sierau. This cleverly balanced composition of the Board of Trustees has been able to keep the charitable legacy of the founder alive for 120 years. The Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the family foundation is Dr. Ulrich Strunk.
Since 2007, Prof. (Hon.) Dr. Michael Böckelmann (MBA) has been the Managing Director of the Schüchtermann-Schiller Clinics, since 2016 he is Chairman of the Board and assisted by the second Managing Director Marc Lütkemeyer. The Managing Directors are assisted in running the clinics by the Chief Physicians of the specialist medical departments and the Director of Nursing.
