Rhythm disorders comprise two main treatment areas: interventional electrophysiology and therapy with pacemaker and defibrillator systems. The rhythm disorders department diagnoses and treats the entire spectrum of cardiac arrhythmias. This includes catheter ablation of all cardiac arrhythmias as well as implantation of all forms of pacemakers and defibrillators, including cardiac resynchronisation therapy. We are also able to carry out interventional atrial appendage closure in patients with atrial fibrillation and in patients for whom oral anticoagulation is contraindicated. We also offer the diagnostic clarification of all arrhythmias, including the investigation of genetic rhythm disorders.

On the one hand, the research activities investigate the effectiveness of new pacemaker and CRT systems. Clinical research helps to understand which patients benefit from different pacemaker and defibrillator systems at all. Studies are also being conducted on leadless pacemakers. On the other hand, various catheters and new ablation strategies for the treatment of cardiac arrhythmias are being investigated with regard to their safety and effectiveness.
