TEACHING HOSPITAL

The Schüchtermann-Klinik has been an academic teaching hospital of the University Hospital Hamburg-Eppendorf (UKE) UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL HAMBURG-EPPENDORF (UKE) since 1 November 2020. As a practical training centre for medical students, the Heart Centre in Bad Rothenfelde offers prospective doctors the opportunity to complete their practical year in one of the largest heart centres in Germany. Through this cooperation, students can receive practical training in the field of cardiac and vascular surgery, but also beyond. In this context, the Schüchtermann-Klinik appeals to students who, in addition to the field of CARDIAC SURGERY, would also like to familiarise themselves with the interdisciplinary cooperation of an integrated heart centre.

The guiding principle behind what we do is patient-focused cooperation between the individual disciplines in the HEART TEAM, and this is something that we practice every day. For several years now, the Schüchtermann-Klinik has had two hybrid operating theatres with fully equipped cardiac surgery operating theatres and a cardiac catheterisation laboratory. Since 2020, the hospital has also had an interdisciplinary special ward where cardiology, cardiac surgery and anaesthesia work even more closely together. Another special feature of the Schüchtermann-Klinik is that, in addition to diagnostics and therapy, it also offers the specialities required for the rehabilitation of cardiovascular diseases under one roof.

The Institute for CARDIOVASCULAR RESEARCH is connected to the Schüchtermann-Klinik.

The Institute brings together the Schüchtermann-Klinik’s experimental and clinical research departments. Here, scientists and practising physicians work together with a high level of professional expertise. This form of interdisciplinary, clinical research ensures that new forms of therapy can be developed and then implemented directly in patient care at the Schüchtermann-Klinik, in particular thanks to the unique structure of an integrated heart centre
