Since it was founded in 1973, the Schüchtermann-Klinik has developed from a general internal medicine spa clinic into a modern, integrated heart centre. This steady growth is also due to the entrepreneurial commitment of the Schüchtermann-Schiller Family Foundation of Dortmund. Heinrich Schüchtermann and his wife Antoinette Schiller contributed a large part of their assets to this foundation, which the Schüchtermann-Klinik is still part of today.

The hospital’s development shows that the structure of a charitable family foundation is an ideal hospital operator that can lead good ideas to success without short-term economic or political decision-making constraints.

The foundation’s board of directors includes the highest church and political dignitaries in Dortmund. Currently these are Provost Andreas Coersmeier and Lord Mayor Ullrich Sierau. This wisely balanced team has been able to keep the benefactor’s charitable legacy alive for 120 years. The Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the family foundation is Dr Ulrich Strunk.

Since 2007, Hon. Prof. Michael Böckelmann (MBA) has been Managing Director of the Schüchtermann-Schiller’schen Kliniken, and since October 2016 he has held the position of Chairman of the Board of Management and is supported by the second Managing Director, Marc Lütkemeyer. The consultants of the medical departments and the director of nursing are also represented on the board of management.
