ANAESTHESIA
The task of the department of anaesthesiais to provide our patients with safe anaesthesia and a pain-free further healing process through personalised preparation and care.
Every year, the department carries out about 4,000 anaesthetics at a total of 13 anaesthesia workstations in the field of cardiac surgery and cardiology. The majority of anaesthetics are general anaesthetics, which are performed in the context of heart operations using the heart-lung machine. Thanks to modern technology and medicines, a general anaesthetic is nowadays only associated with a very low risk.
The recovery times after anaesthesia and the period of post-operative care in the intensive care unit are usually very shortfor our patients. This is due, among other things, to the personalised anaesthetic adaptation. Normally, the patient leaves the intensive care unit the morning after the operation. This makes it possible to avoid specific complications that can be caused by an unnecessarily long period of lying down and ventilation.
Throughout the operation, the anaesthetist monitors all organ functions and the patient’s depth of anaesthesia using the latest medical technology. A team of experienced anaesthetists ensures that the anaesthesia is precisely adapted to the physiological conditions of the patient for each individual procedure.
